Mirror in a Blade Eugen Bacon
From Blade Gallagher to brother Michael, a well-defined caricature of insanity, Mirror in a Blade is told in alternating view points. The author skilfully draws atmosphere in rural Scotland where the spirit of the story is set. "Two tellers brush every tale. Broken pieces. A mirage." The originality in hook, the intimacy between madness and normality, contrasts and parallels throughout, grabbed me, as did the gothic touch, unusual twists and betrayals contained by the story. As in Eugen M. Bacon's hybrid series in Amazon Shorts, this novel displays the writer's powerful voice, imposing dialogue and flair for language to the extent that lesser characters like Neri Lamont and Aunt Candice ascend into a book of their own.
